Craig Beverlin, former Kamiakin HS and Washington State Coaches Association Hall of Fame Coach will take over as the Head Football Coach at 1A Kiona-Benton High School in Benton City, WA. Beverlin officially retired after the 2008 season, having amassed a 182-70-1 record at Kamiakin, with seven league titles and 13 playoff appearances.
Beverlin found it hard to be away from the game that he loves so much, and being a teacher and a motivator of kids. "I've got too much in the tank" Beverlin said when reached by phone from his winter home in Louisiana.
In fact, months after his original retirement Beverlin took a head coaching job at Vermillion Catholic HS in Abbeville, LA near the childhood home of his wife Joan. During the 3-year stint at VC Beverlin amassed a 21-15 record, finishing in 2011 with a 13-1 record from a program that was winless the year before he arrived.
The past 2 years Beverlin was a volunteer assitant under his son-in-law Bill Templeton at Kennewick High School, in Kennewick, WA.
Beverlin will inherit a Ki-Be team that went 3-7 last year under coach Charlie Hobbick.
